Some Tips On Teething For Babies And Toddlers
When a baby or toddler is teething, it can be a miserable time for all. However there are a few simple techniques that you can do to relive the babies pain and sadness. These tips don't have to be done all at the same time, you can do this at your own convenience.
What The Signs Are
Look for signs, of teething for example, when a baby cheeks go red, when they are a bit irritable, have a low fever, any changes in the nursing habits or if you have any feeding problems. Also have a look for gums that maybe inflamed or if there is a diaper rash developing.
Things To Do Next
Start to cuddle, your toddler, and even nurse them more that what you have been doing. They will probably like this as they are also receiving more attention from you too. Pick your times wisely on when you should and shouldn't nurse them.
Massage the babies gums with the tip of your fingers, only do so when the baby lets you. Babies will like this as they can see it helps with the discomfort. Dampen a wash cloth or towel and put them into the freezer. Then offer it to your young one for them to chew. Alternatively, you can find some other teething toys around the house, and put them either into the freezer or fridge.
Give your baby or toddler, some icy and cool drinks, to help soothe out the child's gums. Only do this if the child is old enough to drink other drinks, other than breast milk. You can also provide your child with comfort foods, for example applesauce or even yogurt, when they are old enough to eat foods like that.
Wipe the toddlers mouth, with dampen cloth or towel, this is for when they start to drool. Doing this, prevents the child from having a rash, that can be formed during this time. Look for tablets that are made for teething, these can be homeopathic or they can be supplied in liquid form; families use this to help ease the pain of their child's discomfort. You may also want to use a teething gel, this can help numb the pain of the tongue area or gum area. Only do this on occasion and not all the time. These can be brought over the counter, the other choice is to buy ones that are made from natural ingredients, such as olive oil.
The last option is to give your child acetaminophen or another type of pain reliever, this needs to be approved by the doctor or pharmacist, especially when your child is in severe pain. You should always go to the doctor, when they are experiencing a lot of pain with teething.
Teething can be a challenging time for many, even though it shows the child is growing up, however the negative is that the child is in pain. These suggestion should help and ease your toddlers pain.
